As a lover of world music I was floored when I first heard a track from this album while listening to KCRW. Tinariwen, the Saharan, nomadic blues-rock group’s new album Tassili strides across several genres to produce something so unsettling and so good that you just might feel you are hearing something in music for the first time, something from the cellar of your heart.
For this release they’ve invited in a few friends as well. Nels Cline contributes a beautiful guitar to opener “Imidiwan ma Tennam”, two members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band add rough texture to “Ya Messinagh”, and TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe, who traveled out to the desert recording site, are on hand on five songs, adding subtle backing harmonies and even a bit of lead vocal on one song.
A world music favorite this year and a strongly recommended must buy! Also, don’t miss them live if you get the chance. For more info click here!
I am always searching for new world music, if you know of a great album that you think I should check out please share!
I discovered The Sanctuary in 2001 and at 21 years old I thought I had died and gone to paradise! I have never seen another place like it. Their motto ‘built for travelers, by travelers’ is an honest description for this place. Accessible only by boat, it’s an adventure in itself and a must do if your in Thailand!
The Sanctuary, Bungalow Resort & Spa, is a boutique beach resort, spa, and detox center on the small island of Koh Phangan. Away from it all, you can feast on healthy mouth watering vegetarian and seafood specialties, stay in unique island style accommodations and experience their wonderful yoga and meditation offerings.

Imagine having the sights, sounds and scents of an exotic destination at your home or event location, such as someone playing the Sitar while guests receive spa treatments in a luxe safari tent pitched in your yard or even in your living room. Hollywood royalty has already hailed us as the real deal. We have set up spa at private events for James Cameron, Jillian Michaels, Sugar Ray Leonard, Don Henley, Bill Maher, Kara Dioguardi and Beau Bridges among others. We have a cult following because of our unique backgrounds and holistic mastery of organic spa treatments and body- work.
Our luxe safari tents serve as a portable spa retreat inspired by Amani-Khas’ luxury out door living which I discovered on a trip to India. A big inspiration! I play the sitar at events when the magical quality of live music adds to the experience. No one else does this kind of immersion around the global spa concept.
Our resumes have a combined wellness and indie -boho chic prestige that is international in scope and down to earth in delivery, beyond some of the offerings you may find at a Four Seasons spa or Golden Door. Our skill surpasses some of the best spas in the world and our clientele has noticed. Our staff and philosophy is a magical & harmonious moving wellness sanctuary.

The super talented and amazing Anoushka Shankar does it again with her latest release, ‘Traveler’. By far one of the best, stunning and original world music albums of the year! Anoushka amazes as she explores the links between Indian music and Spanish flamenco, the result of ancient Gypsy migration. This collaboration allows her to demonstrate her inspired instrumental work in the company of Indian musicians and the flamenco elite, including the producer and guitarist Javier Limón.
Unfortunately she just concluded her world tour, but you can still enjoy the music! For more info click HERE
Havasupai Indian Reservation
Prepare yourself for a trip like no other, and an opportunity to commune with nature on a world class scale. Havasu Falls and Mooney Falls are among the best loved waterfalls on Mother Earth, and deep in the Grand Canyon they are close to her heart.
Located 8 miles from the rim of the Grand Canyon, accessible only by foot or helicopter, the village- also known as Supai, has been home to the Havasupai Indians for many centuries. As time evolved the village has grown with many homes sprouting and taking root in areas where there used to be only farmlands. The village boasts a small café, lodge, post office, school, church, clinic, police station, and a general store. If you don’t have the time to hike, enjoy scenic views from the comfort of an comfortable seat in a state of the art aircraft.
I have traveled extensively throughout the world and can honestly say Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon is one of the most unique and incredible places I have ever experienced. A must for adventure seekers and lovers of nature. For more info click here.

Riad Palais Sebban – Marrakesh, Morocco
Riad Palais Sebban is by far, the coolest place to stay in the ancient city of Marrakesh without breaking the bank. If you are looking for an authentic and traditional family run Riad in the heart of the Medina then look no further. We stayed here in 2009 at the beginning of August for 5 days when it’s hot as hell, we were so happy to have a pool to cool off in. Also, the location is prime and the detail work of the riad is some of the best in Marrakesh!
Situated a 5-minute walk from the souks (shopping mania), the Jamaâ El Fna Square (where you will be every night) and Koutoubia Mosque, this stylish riad dates from the 19th century and combines Moroccan and Andalusian architecture. It offers a swimming pool and a rooftop terrace with panoramic city views.
Relaxation activities at the riad include hammam and massage treatments. Staff cater to guests’ needs 24 hours a day and can help organize excursions, airport transfers and cooking lessons for a supplement. Marrakech is a bustling city and the Riad Le Palias Sebban offers you some calm when you want to escape the craziness of the city.
